2.6 Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Use effective teaching strategies to integrate ICT into learning and teaching programs to make selected content relevant and meaningful
on youtubeICT has become a major aspect in students learning in our classroom's today. During a health unit for a year 5/6 class, I had been delivering lessons based on bullying and how it impacts children's learning at school. Students in the class had been doing lots of poster and writing tasks to display their learning and their ideas on the impact of bullying. A task I had set the students was to create a video, which involved students acting out how bullying can impact a student at school. The students had to act out 2 different views: 1. The impact of bullying occuring in school on a student, the class and the wider school community.
2. The impact of no bullying being present in the school community.
Students then had to use microsoft word to type out a script to print off for all group members, including the teacher. After students had rehearsed their lines and scenes, students were then provided with an ipad where they had to record their films. Once recorded, students used a program called 'Imovie' to edit their films by adding effects, transitions and collating all of their clips, to create 1 bigger movie. To allow all students to view other groups, and so I could assess their learning students then posted their work to the class Seesaw page, where families could also engage in their learning.
After this, students had to write a reflection on the process of their learning. One particular student indicated that "it was good to view other movies that people in the class made, to be able to see what bullying can do rather than read something about it or have the teacher explain".
During a biology unit for students in years 5 & 6, students had been given a reasearch project on finding adaptations of a chosen animal. students had to collate information from books and the internet to create a A3 poster showing their findings. To incorporate ICT into this process, students were provided with books and allocated ipad time during class. When on the ipads, students had to research information, and find pictures of maps and their animal for their project. Providing students with the ipad, allowed them to obtain information from a wider range of resources other than books. During the time frame, I would also find video clips to show in class on animals that had been selected by the students.
