Reflecting upon my own schooling experiences and my developing career as a teacher, I believe that my stance on learning and teaching has been vastly influenced by my past encounters. My teaching philosophy statement begins with the notion that our students are the future and that we have the ability to assist them in reaching their full potential. By doing this, it allows them to bring something unique and special to not only their own future, but others around them. Reaching this, the conceptions of respect and relationships needs to come into motion. Building respectful relationships will be something that is always going to be promoted within my learning environments; not just amongst the students but also their parents/carers and the broader school community. Having mutual respect amongst the students will assist me in facilitating students learning and creating a positive learning environment.
As a facilitator of learning, I endeavour to provide my students with a voice in their own learning from the very beginning. I believe that the most effective learning takes place when students as challenged, engaged and interested in the practical application of knowledge. Improving my learning and professional development as a teacher is something I believe to be vastly important and is something I will continue to engage in throughout my whole career.
Diversity is something that will always be catered for within my classrooms to further assist students to reach their learning and life goals. Nurturing my student’s capabilities by creating a learning environment to grow and develop self-efficacy is something that will always be promoted amongst them. Working on their own individualities, strengths and weaknesses, will help me improve their learning and create positive relationships with my students. I believe that it is important for students to have a space that allows them to feel safe and provides opportunities to express their own feelings and beliefs. Rather than dictating students learning, I will facilitate it by allowing students to take ownership of their learning whilst being firm but fair. Making the most out of every opportunity to ensure that the students I am preparing for their lives not only during school, but beyond it is something I will always implement in my teaching practices.
